General Questions

How does Fig work? How can it help me?

We offer a pragmatic approach to investing in early stage businesses and work diligently to remove any financial barriers founders face in realising their goals. We help you critically analyse your own business concept before forming a professional business plan and pitch deck for potential investors. We provide you with the best resources to do this, by introducing you to our strategic partners and extensive network of mentors and investors, with relevant industry experience.

What stage businesses do you invest in?

When we invest we like to be the first money that goes into a company, but we have participated in second, third and fourth round financing. In short, we’ll invest at any stage, from £50,000 to £5,000,000.

How long will it take me to fill out the online viability framework?

It will vary considerably depending on the stage of your business development and the resources you can commit to it. We recommend that you take your time when completing the framework as the more information you can provide us, the better our analysts can understand your business idea.

Is there a restriction to the type of business idea or does your service apply to any sector?

We have no sector focus – our portfolio ranges from fitness equipment manufacturers to neuroscience attention analytics and food & beverage companies. We are open to any idea, so long as it is legal!

We look for ideas that will disrupt industries; ideas that solve a problem and address a need before a want and will offer investors a Return On Investment of 10 to 15 x their original capital (or more) within three to eight years.

What are your fees / what do you charge?

We do not charge anything to use the website and the analysis tools. If you apply for Fig’s support and we choose to engage with you, all fees and engagements are tailored to each start-up (we don’t have fixed values as this is the fairest way) and we only charge on delivery. To reiterate, we charge no fees upfront and we only charge fees on successful delivery.

Our most common engagement terms include an equity fee (typically 5%) and a placement fee (typically 5% of any funds raised from investors that we introduce).

Does it have to be an idea (i.e. pre-formation) or can I come to you for investment with a company I have already started?

If you have a company that is already up and running, we would love to help you take it to the next level.

Can anybody see my idea?

Your idea is not visible to other users on the site. We make sure only trusted and carefully selected parties get to see your ideas. Please click here for our Privacy Policy.

Will you sign an NDA?

Due to the volume of business plans we receive on a daily basis it is not possible for us to sign NDAs. We respect the confidentiality of all information you send us – and your confidential information will not be shared with anyone outside the Fig network of vetted investors. For more information as to why we do not sign NDAs visit here.

What does advisor mean?

An advisor is someone who is advising you on your business idea; they can be a friend, co-founder, mentor or anyone whose opinions you respect.

Investors and Equity

If you are unable to find the answer to your question, please visit our contact page.

Who are your investors?

We have a network of over 250 investors.

How long will it take to get investment?

It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months – the process varies considerably from company to company. The average time from initial contact through to indicative offer and then investment depends upon the amount of time you can invest in the process, the quality and completeness of information in your business plan and the results of our due diligence.

What is the typical investment size?

The size of our investment depends on the needs of the individual company. Typically we invest between £200k and £1m in first rounds, and up to around £5m in later rounds

Apart from investor finance, can Fig assist with other matters such as government grants, loans, etc.?

Fig can assist in many ways to help you grow your business – if we engage with you we will happily go over all of your options with you.
