Mark Hanington

Mark has worked in financial services and asset management for over 15 years. He started his career at Henderson Global Investors. After four years of training there, he joined Fig and helped to grow the company from two employees to the FCA-authorised, corporate finance and fund-raising service provider Fig is today.

Mark has formed and sat on the boards of Fig and New Model Venture Capital since 2011 and has extensive board experience from commitments to companies in the Fig portfolio and currently sits on the boards of Property Detective, EyeQuant and Xenomorph.

James founded Fig to provide a pragmatic new approach to supporting and investing in high-growth early-stage companies. He built Fig with the support of angel investors who wanted to see a more consistent and practical approach to sourcing deal flow, as well as with the support of his business partners who are passionate about delivering the best possible services to founders.

James oversaw the development of the Fig services, the establishment of Fig’s student outreach programme, ESSA, and the creation of FIG Village alongside raising substantial capital for start-ups. In the past four years, James has raised more than £40m of direct investments for early-stage ventures, having identified opportunities for Fig's network of angel investors. James now manages New Model Venture Capital where he has been instrumental in raising hundred of millions of pounds for portfolio companies in both debt and equity. New Model is an authorised fund manager, investing directly into the companies Fig supports as well as providing corporate finance services.

Marco Geninazza

Operations Director

Marco is a Co-Founder and Director of Fig. In early 2013 Marco took over the management and build of the FIG Village project and was ultimately responsible for its success. After a successful launch in May 2013, he took responsibility for the operations and marketing of the building.

As part of the investment team, Marco is responsible for fundraising and facilitating investments into the existing portfolio and supporting its wider growth. He sits on the board of a number of portfolio companies including Property Detective, MOGO and Careerpass Network and is currently acting Operations Director at Property Detective.

Prior to Fig, Marco worked in senior roles at PR, marketing and events agencies and in 2008 he set up his own events company, The Society London, which he successfully sold in 2010.

Jon Landau

Jon is an Investment Director, working as a board member of a number of Fig's portfolio companies, supporting the executive teams and helping the businesses grow.

Prior to joining Fig, Jon held leadership roles within high-growth, B2B technology businesses such as Huddle and Wazoku, and is an expert in Customer Success strategies to drive engagement, value and advocacy across an enterprise client base. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in his mid-20s, Jon focusses on the importance of workplace culture, people-centred management and health & wellbeing when building successful businesses.

James is responsible for reviewing, and executing investment opportunities, as well as working closely with a number of portfolio companies to support their growth.

James holds a BA in Economics from Nottingham University, and is an ACA qualified accountant having trained at PwC. Since leaving PwC James has held M&A roles at UBM, Informa, and Royal Mail where he worked on, or was responsible for, numerous M&A transactions from smaller bolt-ons and MBOs, to Class 1 acquisitions and disposals.

Ola is part of the Investment Management team. He is responsible for supporting the growth of portfolio companies, managing key client relationships and assisting with business development.

Ola holds a BSc in Political Science and Government from the University of Bristol and started his career working for Rothschild & Co. in M&A before moving to Gibraltar to work for a privately held investment fund and internet start-up for four years. Most recently, he worked in sales and account management within the sports industry for England Rugby and IMG.

Gemma Todd

Marketing and Communications Manager

Gemma is Fig's Marketing and Communications Manager and is responsible for the creation and implementation of all of the company's internal and external marketing activities. Her major responsibilities include brand management, press relations and shareholder communications. 

Gemma holds a BA in French from the University of Leeds and trained as a journalist, working as news reporter and freelance writer before joining Fig.

Charlotte Slaney Smith

Charlotte is part of the analyst team. She is responsible for deal review, due diligence and supporting the growth of portfolio companies. 

Charlotte holds a BSc in Banking, Finance and Management from Loughborough University and has previously worked across the financial sector at Credit Suisse, Citigroup and National Australia Bank.

Adelle Brayford

Financial Controller

Adelle is Fig’s Financial Controller and is responsible for all aspects of the finance function.  Her main responsibilities are the creation of new budget, forecasting and management accounts models and managing the financial reporting.

Adelle has spent 23 years working in finance from grassroots level in various sectors, of which four years were in a regulated Group Manager role within the Bank of New York Mellon.  More recently, Adelle worked with a global firm in the oil and gas sector, reporting management accounts for Canadian and US entities before being promoted to Middle East Financial Controller, based in Qatar, responsible for US $80m turnover a year.

Robin McIlvenny

Robin has more than 30 years of experience in commercial and investment banking, having worked in senior positions with Deutsche Bank, Security Pacific National Bank, Creditanstalt and JP Morgan Group.

From 1991 to 2003, Robin was CEO of Bahrain International Bank and Chairman of Crown Dilmun Holdings, a Gulf-based investment bank and leading UK property developer, respectively. He has a wealth of expertise at investment committee level and exit strategy execution gained in the US, European and Far-East private equity markets.

Alongside his 20 years of private equity and VC investment experience, Robin is an active and highly successful angel investor. Robin is also an adviser to the UK Government Trade & Industry Dept (UKTI) on high value inward investment projects in Innovation and Regeneration.

Stephen Kelly

Stephen Kelly is the co-founder of 2020 Chartered Accountants, which he started with Stephen Hay in 2000. They were looking to offer high quality, affordable accounting and finance support to growing businesses and Stephen’s experience means that he is able to offer advice and finance support in a proactive and pragmatic way.

He trained with KPMG in London within their Audit Department and has spent many years working within industry, including as Financial Controller for Richard Ellis (acquired by CB Commercial to form CBRE), now the world’s largest property services firm.
